Erick d'Orion is a sound and new media artist as well as a self-taught composer, musician and audio curator. His sound research focuses primarily on digital maximizing and the ever-present tension between the almost narrative and total abstraction, his work is closely related to noize, musique concrète, free jazz and electro-acoustic music, without being stuck in any one artistic category.
Currently, his artistic expression is directed mainly toward reinterpretation, appropriation, and the re-reading of certain concepts on the history of art, in particular musique concrète, dadaïsm, and futurism. He is a member of the duo morceaux_de_machines, among others, was co-founder and art director of the defunct collective MACHINES: abstractions sonores électroniques, as well as co-founder of the collective Napalm Jazz. He is right now curator for the artists-runned center Avatar, in Quebec city. His work has been presented in Canada, Europe (Belgium, Spain, France), Australia, Cuba, and Mexico. |
